🎨 What Are DTF Transfers?

🛠️ What You’ll Need
To apply DTF transfers onto t-shirts, gather the following:
-
Heat press machine
-
T-shirt (cotton, poly, or blend)
-
DTF transfer (ready-to-press)
-
Heat-resistant tape (optional)
-
Teflon or parchment sheet (for protection)
🧼 Step 1: Prep the T-Shirt
Lay your t-shirt flat on your heat press platen.
Pre-press the shirt for 5 seconds at 300°F (150°C) to remove moisture and wrinkles. This ensures better adhesion and a smooth finish.
Tip: Use a lint roller to remove dust or fibers.
📐 Step 2: Position Your DTF Transfer
Place the DTF transfer film (design side up) on the shirt exactly where you want the graphic.
Use a ruler or t-shirt guide to center the placement. You can also use heat-resistant tape to hold the transfer in place if needed.
🔥 Step 3: Press the DTF Transfer
Use these recommended heat press settings:
-
Temperature: 300°F to 325°F (150°C to 160°C)
-
Time: 10–15 seconds
-
Pressure: Medium to firm
Place a Teflon or parchment sheet on top of the film to protect it, then press.
💨 Step 4: Peel the Film (Hot or Cold)
DTF transfers can be peeled hot, warm, or cold — depending on the type of film used.
Most of our DTF transfers are hot peel or warm peel. Gently lift a corner to test. If the design is still lifting, let it cool a bit more before peeling.
Peel steadily and evenly for best results.
💪 Step 5: Optional Second Press (for Matte Finish)
For a softer matte finish and better durability, you can do a second press:
-
Place parchment sheet over the design
-
Press again for 5–7 seconds at same temperature
-
This step flattens the transfer and seals the edges
🧺 Step 6: Cure Time & Wash Care
Let the shirt rest for 24 hours before washing.
Recommended wash instructions:
-
Turn garment inside out
-
Machine wash cold
-
Tumble dry low or air dry
-
Avoid bleach and harsh detergents
-
No fabric softener or high heat drying
With proper care, DTF transfers can last over 50 washes without cracking or fading!

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Pressing too hot or too long (can burn or distort the film)
-
Not pre-pressing the shirt (moisture causes poor adhesion)
-
Peeling too early (film may lift ink if not cooled enough)
-
Using a dirty or uneven platen (affects pressure consistency)
